finding there was absolutely nothing appealing in the fridge, veronica sighed, pushing the fridge closed, as she wandered off down the hall to retrieve her car keys. so far, ronnie wasn't exactly thrilled with this place. the weather was nice and her new job sounded like it could be entertaining, but being cooped up in the donatelli house alone was no fun and she had yet to make any real friends. the laguna sun was setting slowly in the sky as veronica exited her house and hopped in her car, taking off down the road in search of the 7-11 she spotted earlier on her way home from the surf shop. turning the corner, ronnie was pleased to see the place coming into view. after she parked, ronnie pulled open the door of the store and headed to the back in search of the arizona iced teas she was craving. once she spotted it, the blond was on her way to pay when a few snacks caught her eye. she'd figure one trip to the sketchy place was enough so might as well pile up on the regular items her household lacked and it wouldn't hurt to purchase a few gossip magazines while she was at it either.

to be realistic, terri basically lived at the local 7-11. it was practically his main food source. then again, things were that way for most of the surfer kids. that was the routine. catch some waves, leave the beach and hit the sev on your way home. terri had managed to waste his entire day the beach and now that sun was finally setting he decided to head home - but not without grabbing a slurpee and some food. climbing out of range rover, he shut the door and headed for the entered of the small convenience store. as usual, most the store's occupants were teenagers or the random adult getting gas. as if he had done it a million times he made his way to the back of the store and filled a cup with the icey blue slush that poured from the machine. once he grabbed a fitted top he made his way to stop number two ; the snack isle. he had his eyes set on his regular chip of choice - cheetos - but as he scoped out the isle something, or someone rather, caught his eye. slowly a smirk crept onto his lips as he nonchalantly eyed the girl next to him up and down - also taking notice of the items in her hands. "oh..arizona..." he nodded while his voice grabbed her attention before terri gestured towards the ice tea. " i hear it's hot there...must be your homeland." he said with a cheesy grin as he ran a hand through his dreads, awaiting her comeback.

ronnie was stuck between what snack item she should get next when a voice broke through her thought process. the blond glanced up to see a boy standing nedt to her and his attempt at striking up a onversation with her caused a smile to tug at ronnie's lips. she tilted her head to the side as she heard him continue. glancing back at the shelves, ronnie took a few seconds to reply. "yeah, i guess you could say i lived there once upon a time," she glanced back at the boy after she grabbed a bag of sour gummy worms. "you'd be insane if you thought it wasn't boiling there." arizona was among one of the many places ronnie's family settled into for only a short time. she couldn't even call those various spots home since she never spent more than a year at each location, but that was too much to explain to the stranger so she settled with her mysterious response instead. ronnie glanced up to meet the boy's eyes as she gave him a small smile, thinking they'd part ways. the blond left the aisle but stopped short as a magazine caught her eye in another aisle in the small store. ronnie's eyes were too busy glancing over the racks of gossip to notice the men dressed in black entering the store, but it wasn't long before her attention was torn from reading and became focus on the crime before her.

terri had already predicted the girls reaction in his head and he was expecting a roll of the eyes and scoff and pretty much just to be ignored. but when she actually replied to him casually, he found his lips parting in awe, mostly just being shocked that a girl didn't slap him for his stupid, on the spot, pick up lines. before he had any time to respond though she had left him with a quick smile and was on her way. shaking his head in disbelief, he turned his attention to the chips displayed in front of him. "dang, az girls are easy!" he muttered to himself with a sly smirk before lifting his gaze, his eyes following her to another isle. being slick, he casually followed in her footsteps and soon enough was browsing a rack of magazines. just then a bell sounded, letting everyone know someone was leaving or entering. casually, he took a quick glance, but ended up doing a double take at the suspicious man that just arrived. "talk about sketchy..." he muttered for only them to hear with a shake of his head. he attempted to blow it off but things quickly went wrong. all in the same moment he chaos ensued. he heard shouting and screaming but once he heard gun shots instinct ran through him. his drink fell as he reached for the girl and terri protectively wrapped his arm around her shoulders. he pulled her to the ground with him and the two huddled behind a shelf. "you alright?!" he asked in an airy panic as he kept her close to him, trying to block out the shattering of glass and shouting.

although the blond could sense the boy's presence, she kept her eyes on the racks and absentmindedly scanned over each gossip worthy headline. the words the boy spoke caused her to look up at him however, but shortly after she was staring back at the magazines. this was no tough decision but ronnie couldn't seem to choose just yet. ronnie assumed this trip to the local store would be short and sweet and she'd be on her merry way after deciding what items to purchase, but as she heard shouting and cries, she knew instantly this was no easy trip afterall. suddenly, the items in ronnie's hands were being pushed to the ground as the surfer kid from earlier protectively grabbed her. gunshots went off and there was more shouting as ronnie parted her lips in fear. it took a few moments to register what the boy was saying before she slowly nodded her head, "uh, i th-think so," a few more rounds of shots went off, causing ronnie to bow her head and bury it in the boy's chest. for a moment, she closed her eyes and hoped the madness would stop soon but all she could make out was shouting, even the boy was flinching a few times.

with more gun shots being rounded off, he felt his body tense while the blonde tucked her head against his chest. he didn't really know what to say to the girl but instead he kept her close to him. "it'll be alright, we're gonna be good." he promised as chaos and commotion filled the store more and more while the seconds passed. terri wasn't sure what exactly was going on - if the store was being robbed or if someone just thought it'd be cool to shoot the place up at random. whatever was happening though, it wasn't an everyday occurrence and he didn't plan on hanging around for the ending. glancing over his shoulder, his eyes spotted the emergency exit at the back of the store - and luckily for them it was a straight bee-line from where they were. "...there's a door behind us." he said in a whisper as the girl lifted her head away from his body. he slightly lifted himself and gripped a nearby shelf to gain balance. "go, go, stay low..." he directed the girl to go ahead of him before he followed closely behind, staying crouched down between the isle, trying to ignore the chaos. but as soon as the two got to the door, he popped up and pushed the door open from behind her in one swift movement. wasting no time, he took off right behind the blonde, looking like a couple of bandits. together they slipped between two buildings behind the 7-11 and finally stopped in a parking lot for some locally owned boutiques. "damn, arizona! that was crazy!" he said breathlessly as he aimlessly took a few steps, trying to catch his breath.

as much as ronnie wanted to believe his soothing words, she couldn't convince herself it was all true. she was finding the chances of them surviving slim to none, but that was just her. if laguna was anything like this on a regular basis, ronnie wanted to get the hell out as fast as possible but as she leaned her head against the boy's chest, she kept telling herself to be optomistic and never come to 7-11 again. at his words, the blond cautiously raised her head and spotted their best chance at survival. with an uneasy look across her face, she nodded her head slowly as she agreed to make the exit with him. as she slowly moved toward the door, ronnie made sure to keep her head low as she pushed the surrounding atmosphere out of her mind. as her hero carefully pushed open the door, ronnie bounced up and took off running. the two slipped between buildings as ronnie tried to catch her breath. she shot a look at the boy before leaning against the wall. "i think we make a good team. does this happen often?" she pressed her lips together and ran a hand through her wind blown hair.
